Sedation Dentistry

Dr. Presser and our team understand that many patients experience dental anxiety. It’s a common phobia, but one that you don’t have to face alone. Through the use of modern anesthesia techniques and soothing sedation, we’ve helped countless patients safely and comfortably complete dental treatment.

Dr. Presser offers nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation. We work with a fully qualified and credentialed anesthesiologist. At your sedation dentistry appointment, we’ll work with you to determine the appropriate level of sedation to alleviate your anxiety.

Nitrous oxide

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is a safe, commonly used gas that’s inhaled through a nasal mask during dental treatment. The gas creates feelings of warmth, safety, and comfort. The effects of nitrous diminish quickly upon removal of the mask. Most patients resume normal activities right away.

Oral sedation

Oral sedation involves the use a sedative in pill form, taken prior to dental treatment. Oral sedation patients must have someone drive them to and from their appointment. The sedative induces a state of total mental and physical relaxation. You won’t be completely “under,” but you may doze off. Effects of the sedative wear off gradually. Typically, patients return to their routine the evening of their oral sedation dentistry appointment.

IV sedation

IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream. Sedating medication alleviates anxiety and lets patients enter a “twilight” phase between sleep and wakefulness. Expect to get back to your normal activities the day following treatment.

Sedation dentistry makes time fly and lets Dr. Presser potentially complete many procedures in a single appointment. If you experience dental anxiety or want to complete your dental work in a minimum number of visits, you owe it to yourself to learn more about sedation dentistry from Philadelphia dentist Dr. Presser.
